About a month or so ago, I lauded the EMI record label right in this very website for deciding to offer their music without any more digital rights management (DRM) encryption. These tracks would initally be available through
iTunes
, Apple Computer's trendy music download site. I even singled out Steve Jobs for a job well done insofar as his open letter to the record companies asking them to remove DRM.
I must admit though that even in my sudden show of public affection for a record company, I still felt in the back of my mind that there may still be a catch in here somewhere. As a former program director, I've dealt with record companies enough to know how shrewd and pushy they are when doing business.
Then on Jun 05, I read an Associated Press (AP) news item entitled "Concerns Emerge Over iTunes User Data". The empire may indeed still be striking back.
